Margaret Gavigan

○ No source citation+ Added from family information
ℹ Added from family information, not in the GEDCOMMargaret is not in the earlier GEDCOM. Colin confirms, from his mother and from John Galloway Jnr, that Margaret Gavigan was a daughter of Hugh Joseph Gavigan and Margaret Sarah Finlayson, and that she married John Galloway. This is family knowledge, not a certificate. Her birth year was first given as 1928; the ScotlandsPeople index points to 1932 (see the note above), and the index also has her marriage and death.
ℹ Birth, marriage and death found in the indexBirth: the ScotlandsPeople birth index has a Margaret Brock Gavigan, girl, born in 1932 in the Calton district of Glasgow (reference 644/3/802), with no image and no mother's maiden name shown. That replaces the 1928 the tree had from family information. 1932 suits the family better, since Helen McKechnie Gavigan was born on 1 November 1927 and a sister born in 1928 would leave under a year between them. Marriage: the marriage index has John Gray Galloway and Margaret Brock Gavigan, married in 1953 in the Leith district (reference 685/8/347), also with no image, so only the year and district are known. Her middle name, Brock, matches in both entries, and a 1932 birth would make her 20 or 21 at the wedding. Death: the death index has Margaret Brock Galloway, aged 51, mother's maiden name Finlayson, died in 1983 in the Leith district (reference 732/798), again with no image. The mother's maiden name Finlayson matches Margaret Sarah Finlayson, which supports the family account that she was Hugh Joseph Gavigan's daughter, and age 51 in 1983 fits a 1932 birth. The birth and marriage entries do not name her parents, so her father is still known only from the family until a certificate confirms it. The 19 Orr Street entry on the 1950 electoral register includes a "Margaret B." Gavigan. If that is her, she would have been 21 or older, which fits the 1928 birth in the Galloway tree better than 1932. The birth index entry (1932) and the death index entry (age 51 in 1983) both support 1932, so her birth year is unsettled. The birth certificate for 644/3/802 would show whether it is hers.

Other names
857 Gilmour, Margaret, and 858 to 865 are other households at number 19
ℹ Who is whoAgnes M. W. is Agnes Wood Gavigan (Hugh junior's wife). Hugh is Hugh junior (the soldier), and Hugh J. is Hugh Joseph, his son. Peter is their son Peter, born 1916. Of the two Margarets, one is probably Hugh Joseph's wife Margaret Sarah and Margaret B. is probably Margaret Brock Gavigan. Margaret Gavigan, born 1913, Hugh senior's daughter, is another possible match.
ℹ Hugh junior was aliveIf this is the 1949 to 1950 register, Hugh Gavigan junior, the soldier, was still alive at about 74. His death has not been found yet.
⚠ Margaret B.Voters had to be 21. A Margaret Brock Gavigan born in 1932 would not be on a register in 1950, while one born on 18 August 1928, as the Galloway tree has her, would be. The birth index entry (Calton 1932) and the death index entry in 1983 (age 51) both point to 1932, so the roll is unexplained. Margaret B. may be a different person, or the date of the roll may be later than 1950.
ℹ The dateThe file name says 1950. The part of the page photographed has no year.
